art and graphics with a background in sales and marketing.
I discovered sea glass when I moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1988, and been collecting these lovely frosted gems ever since. I have amassed a collection of sea glass from both the OBX and from around the world but I sill get a special thrill when I hold a unique and rare piece in my hand. My designs are based on my love of sea glass. I always try to leave a bit of glass open so the wearer can reach up and feel the wonderful texture of the frost that is the telltale sign of top quality Genuine Sea Glass TM. Though many of my designs have been copied by newcomers, we still maintain the highest quality of work and materials and use some of the best and rarest sea glass in the world.
More company info.... Linda is self taught in jewelry making and this adds to the unique wire wrapping style. . Every piece is a mini sculpture in itself, using 14K G/F and Sterling wire to enclose these recycled gems and turn them into jewelry. She established By The Sea Jewelry and it is the oldest internet sea glass company in the world. Her passion for these diminishing gems has kept the site a favorite among sea glass collectors the world over! "I was inspired by another artist in the Outer Banks Of North Carolina, Katherine Bouchard who has been professionally making sea glass jewelry since the early 1980's. She was the first sea glass jeweler on the Outer Banks and local legend in sea glass. Katherine's work though much more organic, is recognizable to all her clientele. We pursed the same ideas when designing our pieces, signature items that we are now know for. " Linda's Bezel Wire Setting™ is a trademarked setting that leaves both front and back of the sea glass open so the wearer can reach up and feel the glass. Though it has been copied by unethical amateur competitors, we over the finest quality wire bezel settings in the world using some of the rarest sea glass offered anywhere. Linda has been apprenticing with a master silver gold smith in 2008 and will soon be offering limited editions silver smithed settings. Gathering inspiration from nature and the beach, her other unique designs include: Squiggles™ a distinctive signature wrap seems to mimic the sand after the tide has receded. Sea Swirl™ - A simple basic design reflective of a spiral shell, The Hurricane Earrings ™, The Sea Glass Stack ™ - our original design using rare English Sea Glass. Linda was one of the founding board members of the NASGA,a group formed by professional sea glass collectors, authors, artisans, and retailers. The NASGA is an organization with a primary goal: to inform collectors and retailers about the inherent properties of genuine sea glass versus the artificial, tumbled craft glass, which is commonly being sold and often misrepresented as real sea glass. Jim Jereb - With the great success of By The Sea Jewelry, I have recently come full time into the business with my wife Linda. When not drilling glass or polishing Linda's finished creations, I also run Flatfeat Charters specializing in personal flats chartered fishing on the Indian River, as captain of my own flats fishing boat.  |
